Activity On Multiplication By Using Ice Cube Tray And Rajma Seeds

A Mathematics laboratory provides an opportunity for the students to discover through doing. In many of the activities, students learn to deal with problems in the course of doing concrete activities which lay down a base for more abstract thinking.

We keep doing many such activities, one of such activity was done for multiplication using ice-cube tray and rajma or green peas for class III.

Factors were written on the board by the teacher for which the students found the product by placing the seeds in the ice cube tray. Example: 2 X 4 = 8, 2 seeds each were placed in 4 cubes by the students and vice versa. Then they calculated the number of seeds and found the product. This activity gave more scope for individual participation. It encouraged students to become autonomous learners and allowed every student to learn at his or her own pace.
