International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on the summer solstice. NPSI Mysore conducted 'yoga workshop' on 21 June 2017 with great spirit for the students and teachers to mark the day.

The school had invited well experienced yoga instructors Ms Prathima, Ms Archana and Mr Raghavendra from Indeayoga Organization whose aim is to teach and spread awareness on yoga. The students were first instructed to have a seat and chant ‘Om’kara to commence the session. The guide gave a set of instructions to perform certain asanas, meditation to energize the body and mind. They moved onto the next practice, which were five rounds of the well-known surya-namaskara. One of the instructors gave verbal instructions to perform the tasks and another demonstrated in sync with the commands. This particular asana posed challenge to some of the participants. The session ended with relaxation exercise to cool down. The instructor stressed on the fact that we need to inhale the future and exhale the past. The workshop endowed the students and teachers with knowledge of new practices and the benefits which we all can earn from practicing yoga to improve overall health.

The school also conducted bulletin board competitions on topics such as 'Yoga for Modern Mind', 'Great Leaders of Yoga', 'Research in the Field of Yoga' and 'Recent Trends in Yoga'. The students were full of energy and enthusiasm to adapt yoga as part of their daily routine.
