Fun with Polygons
Geometry is a part of mechanics which accurately proposes and demonstrates the art of measuring. Prior to the activity, Montessori seniors were introduced to vocabulary that they would use, as they learnt about polygons and about counting the sides in a polygon. Students then traced the insets of pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon and decagon in drawing sheets. These polygons were cut and pasted in their drawing books. The learners were then asked to count the sides and name the polygons in their books. This activity helped students to identify polygons and develop the vocabulary and terms necessary to describe corresponding to the number of sides.
