Class 9 Virtual Field Trip Reduce Reuse Recycle

Keeping our environment clean is a collective responsibility that we all share. We celebrate World Environment Day every year, but have no clear picture of the vital role that we can play, in making our environment better. Every citizen has a responsibility towards protecting the environment from pollution. We need to reduce, reuse and recycle waste wherever possible and avoid negligent waste disposal practices immediately. There is no excuse for plastic waste in the environment – it should always be recycled and disposed in a responsible manner. Plastic is too valuable a resource to be simply dumped and never used again.

To create awareness about all these aspects and to introduce the concept of plastic remodelling among students of class 9, a virtual field trip was organised for them. Students got to witness “Jagruth Tech”, Mysore’s very own plastic recycling plant, which is a novel and noble initiative by Mr Darshan, the CEO of the start-up.

Learners were shown a video of different sections of the plastic recycling unit, where collection, segregation, shredding and pressing work of plastic waste is carried out. It gave a clear picture of the various types of plastic that can be recycled, the machines and the steps involved in the process. Students were also shown how the recycled plastic items, were transformed into useful furniture, garbage cans, bricks, benches, desks etc. It was amazing to watch the sturdy, water proof and durable recycled items, of different sizes and shapes. being produced in the unit.

The CEO, Mr Darshan, the guest speaker, enlightened the gathering about what inspired him to start the plastic recycling plant. He thanked the citizens of the city for supporting him in the collection and supply of disposed plastic waste. He spoke about plastic waste collection drives organised by him in different parts of the city, including the Nagarhole sanctuary, and was happy about the fact that students of class 9 had shown interest towards this noble cause. The value- driven virtual trip concluded and students were given a report writing task, about similar such recycling work being executed in different parts of India. Students were motivated to organise such plastic waste collection drives in their communities, apartment complexes and do their bit for the precious environment which sustains us all.
