Positive outlook and dedicated effort can keep the evil at bay !!!
With this belief the staff of NPSI, Mysore brought home the festive spirit of Onam celebration to students and parents on a virtual platform on 3 September 2020.
A vibrant pookalam adorned the front lobby adding traditional charm to the occasion. Lighting of the lamp by the Principal and invoking the Lord with the chanting of a shloka was divine. The teachers enlightened the audience by narrating the significance of this festival and the story related to the great demon king Mahabali, both in Malayalam and in English. Onam falls in the Malayalam month of Chingam (August-September), the harvest month that marks the end of a lean period after the heavy monsoon in the state. Onam is thus Kerala’s harvest festival as well as a celebration of a bygone golden era.The festival is celebrated with equal fervour irrespective of class or creed.
Students sent the pictures of their Onam celebration at home, with their courtyards decorated with beautiful Pookalam. A collage of those images was displayed during the broadcast of the programme. The programme concluded with the teachers performing ‘Thiruvatirakali’, the traditional dance of Kerala, performed during Onam.
The programme gave an insight into the Onam celebration and will be etched in the memories of the viewers for a long time.
