A Beginner’s Guide to Success
"We are not makers of history. We are made by history." – Martin Luther King Junior Often, one does not realise how history affects even the most basic details about the present. NPS philosophy of bringing experts on a platform for students’ benefit, ensures that learning happens beyond the textbooks in their curriculum. The learners of classes 9 and 10 of NPSI Mysore recognised the impact of Indian history and ideology on today's world in the guest lecture held on, 8th August, 2023. The students gathered to travel back to the historical time of India, when dynasties controlled the land. Our esteemed chief guest, Gp. Capt. Dr Vinay Vittal, a distinguished Air Force officer, has published articles and has extensively researched on Kautilya's Arthashastra for 13 years. He explained how Kautilya's (also known as Chanakya) Arthashastra is truly timeless and applies for all generations to come. This long lost scripture, rediscovered in 1905, focuses on the concept of Loksamgraha (well-being of the people). Out of all its elements, collectively known as Saptanga, foreign policies are given very high importance. The pre-eminent political theory of Raj Mandala was given by Chanakya himself. This theory describes the structure of a nation along with its allies and nemeses. After the interesting dive into history, the students were pulled back into a time closer to the present. Dr Vinay apprised them about the story of a young boy, who pushed through various struggles to finally achieve his dream. Narrating how he handled emergencies and was awarded the 'Best Fighter Squadron of Indian Air Force', Dr Vinay awed the crowd with his life's story. The two biggest takeaways from this would be Kautilya's definition of success as obtaining happiness and Dr Vinay's inspiring experience, urging everyone to dream on not only at night, but during the day as well, as success can only be achieved by those who dream. The learners are grateful to the Principal, Ms Akhila Dinesh, for this enriching learning opportunity.
