Maxvita Chips Factory: Learning Outside the Classroom
Grade 6 students enjoyed an exciting field trip to Maxvita Chips Factory on 24 October 2024, where they got a first hand experience of the process of making potato chips, from start to finish. The visit started with a brief of the entire process by a worker in the factory. This was followed by a tour of the factory, where students witnessed raw potatoes transformed through washing, slicing, frying and seasoning. Watching the conveyor belts and machinery in action helped them understand how automation plays a vital role in large-scale food production. Along the way, students were introduced to essential skills in the manufacturing industry like quality control, observing how samples of chips are tested to ensure consistency and taste. They also got a glimpse into the importance of team work, problem-solving, safety precautions and time management, all of which are crucial in a fast-paced manufacturing industry. The trip concluded with the students enjoying the freshly made tasty treats. This field trip was an enriching experience that combined learning with fun, giving students a broader understanding of the skills that drive the food industry.
