THE EARTH MOVERS AT BEML
Coinciding with 75 years of India’s Independence and celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) had organised an exhibition for the public on ‘BEML Journey since 1964’ from Monday, Dec. 13 to Sunday, Dec. 19 (10 am to 5 pm) at its complex premises in Mysuru, Bengaluru, KGF and Palakkad (Kerala). It was a bright and sunny morning on 18 December 2021, as the students of classes 9 and 11 journeyed to BEML, Mysore complex, their first on-site field trip since the pandemic. BEML, a public sector undertaking, under the Ministry of Defence, has its plants operating in four locations- Mysuru, Bengaluru, KGF and Palakkad. The students were taken on a campus tour and were shown a display of products like motor graders, water sprinklers, and dumpers, which are manufactured at the Mysore Complex. Students were enlightened about the fact that the water sprinklers are used in mine- fields to control dust, and have four sprays including a gravity spray and a mist spray. A water sprinkler also contains a water monitoring system to extinguish fires in case of accidents. The enthusiastic learners were also shown a variety of other products made by BEML, such as an air coolant engine system. All students returned to school, having learnt a great deal about the equipment used in mining. This was indeed a unique and one-of-its-kind opportunity for the students to have a first-hand glimpse of the various iconic and marquee products manufactured by BEML for use by the country’s defence forces and other allied sectors
