A virtual school trip to Italy opens up countless possibilities to students of both physical geography and human geography. Whether one decides to visit Rome, Naples or Sicily, he/she will find mesmerizing Italy, addictive. There is much more to the destination; ranging from Roman city life and coastal management to food resources and urban growth. Italy presents the perfect opportunity for a cross-curricular humanities trip, which will bringe a teacher’s work in the classroom, to life.
This virtual trip, for the students of Class 10 to Italy, starting from the fashion capital Milan, to Venice on a Gondola and over the beautiful canal connecting the city, was swoon worthy. Browsing through the picturesque Tuscany, with every shade of sunrise on the vineyards was surreal. Rome and its stunning architecture, with the Colleseum, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain as the main attractions, gave the learners, a peek into Roman era. It was the center of the Roman Empire that ruled the European Continent for several ages. Florence, the capital of Renaissance age is noted for its culture, Renaissance art, architecture and monuments. The city also contains numerous museums and art galleries, such as the Uffizi Gallery and the Palazzo Pitti and still exerts an influence in the fields of art, culture and politics. Naples is raw with high-octane energy and is a place of soul- stirring art and panoramas, spontaneous conversations and unexpected, inimitable elegance. Eternal crossroads of the Mediterranean and the gorgeous island of Sicily, continue to capture travellers with its dazzling diversity of landscapes and cultural treasures. Students got a glimpse into all of these cultural and architectural masterpieces of Italy.
Beautifully compiled videos with an apt voice over made the virtual trip, a memorable experience. At the end of the trip, students did mention that they were eager to make a trip to Italy, once the pandemic eases. This 20 minute experience of pure eye catching landscape and architectural acquisitiveness of Italy, is sure to be etched in the memory of students for a long time to come.
