Capacity Building Workshop On Experiential Learning
As part of CBSE training module, a two-day capacity building workshop on experiential learning was organised for the faculty members of NPSI Mysore, on its campus, on 29 and 30 November 2022. The resource persons deputed by the CBSE were Ms Anitha Bijesh, Principal of DPS, South and Ms Anupama Ramachandra, Principal of DPS, Electronics City, at Bangalore. The session began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, followed by a formal introduction and a warm welcome to the trainers. The Principal of NPSI Mysore, Ms Akhila Dinesh extended her greetings to the facilitators and emphasized on the importance of such up-skilling workshops for teachers today. She extolled on how teachers’ need to be at par with the learning pace of students, in this era where children are equipped with vast information. The facilitators began the training by segregating the teachers into groups through an ice breaker activity. Throughout the two days, teachers were engaged in interesting hands on activities that focused on making the teaching-learning experience, a fruitful one. Concepts from Bloom’s taxonomy, implementation of LAAR (Learning Outcome, Activity, Assessment and Reflection) strategy, creating integrated lesson plans through projects and Guilford’s multiple intelligence theory were discussed in detail. Each lesson plan was scrutinized for applicability, the problems likely to be encountered and the best probable solutions. Teachers were guided on how to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time- Bound) goals and enhance students’ self-learning through reflection. Various collaborative learning tools were also discussed. Throwing light on students’ learning styles, teachers were made aware that they must be sensitive and empathetic to varying perspectives and perceptions. The trainees were encouraged to share their experiences and classroom management strategies were brainstormed. The teachers’ groups were asked to come up with ideas regarding any one community building activity- SEWA project- and the implementation plan. Each of the plans was discussed and analysed for pros and cons. The facilitators incorporated interesting videos and anecdotes from their experiences, which made the session relatable and interactive. The session also included a discussion on how teachers are empowered to make a long-lasting positive impact on students’ lives and how important a role they play in shaping a nation’s future. The two-day knowledge packed session concluded with acknowledgements to the resourceful trainers. On behalf of NPSI Mysore, a memento was presented to them by the Principal, Ms Akhila Dinesh, as a token of appreciation and gratitude.
