    “Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration,” says Dr. Nevins. The benefits of Yoga are so profound that today, the entire world recognizes and practices this ancient form of exercise to promote health and wellbeing of individuals in society.

    NPS International, Mysore celebrated the International Yoga Day on 21 June 2022. A special assembly was organized to mark the importance of ‘Yoga for Humanity’ this year. The session commenced with the ‘Om’ chant followed by the well-known surya-namaskara. This was followed by students performing various asanas. The benefit of each asana was highlighted as the students stretched and moved. A group of students from classes 6-12, put up a wonderful display of human pyramids. Students were encouraged to practice meditation, to energize the body and mind. The session ended with a few relaxation exercises.

    The Principal, Ms. Akhila Dinesh in her address thanked our honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, for bringing this wonderful concept of celebrating Yoga worldwide, into force. She emphasized on the theme and said that ‘Yoga for Humanity’ is about healing our own minds, bodies and spirit while parallely giving back to the community. Speaking about the philosophy of ‘Vasudaiva Kutumbakam” she said that Yoga has been instrumental in uniting the entire world into one big family. The Principal advised students to practice a few minutes of yoga daily to improve, strength, balance, flexibility, concentration and overall well-being.

Bagging the maximum number of votes, Milan Anna Kennedy of Class 12 was unanimously elected as the School Prefect, Mahira Dilip Cariappa of Class 11 emerged victorious as the School Senior Vice Prefect and Samyukta Karthik of Class 10 won the position of School Junior Vice Prefect. Arjun Ramesh of Class 12 emerged as the unanimous choice for the post of the School Sports Captain and Amogh Sridhar of Class 11, bagged the position of the School Sports Vice Captain.

On the same day, students of classes 6-12 voted to elect the leaders of their respective Houses in different venues, in the afternoon session. Once again, the counting took place in front of the students and the excitement saw no dip.

In the Challengers House, Kishan Pavan Daaga of class 12, clinched the post of the House Captain, Tribhuvan Raj of Class 11 won the post of Senior Vice Captain and Pranav S Nalloor bagged the title of Junior Vice Captain.

Aditi Simha of Class 12 emerged as the Captain of the Explorers House, with Chehel M Jain of Class 11 winning the post of Senior Vice Captain and Aadya Preetham Shroff won the position of Junior Vice Captain.

The unanimous choice to lead the Pioneers House this year is Sonam Yangtso Nathan of Class 12 as the House Captain, Anagha Padaki of Class 11 as the Senior Vice Captain and Deviah P Uththappa of class 10 as the Junior Vice Captain.

The team elected to the leadership positions of the Voyagers House is Khyati Gupta of Class 12, Shreya Vijayalakshmi of Class 11 and Abhijna Shetty Bharatha of Class10 as the House Captain,Senior Vice Captain and Junior Vice Captain, respectively.

All the elected leaders were formally sworn in to their posts during the grand Investiture ceremony, held on 24 June 2022. The Principal presented the sashes and badges to the main council members and House leaders. The various Association Heads were also inducted to their posts on this day.

The student editorial board comprises Nandita Matolli and Monali Poonacha of Class 12 as Presidents, Rudharth of Class 11 as Senior Secretary, Aditya Sashi and Honnu Bambore of Class 10 as Junior Presidents and Jasmeh kaur Sethi of class 9 as junior secretary.

In her inspirational address to all students and the leaders on the occasion, the Principal Ms Akhila Dinesh emphasized that each one of us is a leader and it is not essential to have a title or a position to showcase leadership. She extolled upon the elected leaders to keep their values intact and always work towards maintaining the discipline and ethos of the school. The Principal also said that each of the elected members are the chosen brand ambassadors of the school and must endeavour to keep the school flag flying high, at all times.

The grand event concluded with acknowledgements to all the members whose constant effort and invaluable contributions, made this programme a grand success. The legacy of leadership continues at NPSI Mysore with a renewed commitment to take this institution to greater heights.
