On 4 November NPSI Mysore conducted the spectacular sporting meet “Sportacus” 2023. The event was streamlined into two sessions. For classes 1 to 5 it was conducted in the morning and for classes 6 to 11 it was conducted in the evening.

The sporting event, in both the sessions, commenced with the unfurling of the school sports flag by the principal, Ms. Akhila Dinesh. The flag symbolises the true spirit of sportsmanship. This was followed by the beautiful rendition of the school song. The guest of honour in the morning was Mrs. Shantha Chandran, the mentor principal of NPS Group of Institutions.

The occasion was all about celebrating the spirit of teamwork and cooperation. And what better way to understand and appreciate this spirit than to commence it with an electrifying March Past from the students of classes 6, 7 and 8! They were led by the respective house captains and prefects. To add to this moment was the splendid torch lighting ceremony, and the torch bearer was Amogh Sridhar, the sports captain. This was followed by oath-taking where students pledged to respect and abide by the rules, in the spirit of fair play, inclusion and equality. The principal in her welcome address, conveyed her gratitude to the board of governors for providing such wonderful infrastructure and sporting facilities for the students. She stressed upon the role of sports and the need for sports to be included in the overall development of the students.

The spectacular display began with the band students followed by the different dynamic displays like the “Wings of Grace” by the girls and "Loop Fit Drill." by the boys, of classes 1 and 2. Another scintillating display was that of the boys and girls of classes 3,4 and 5 who performed the “Pom Pom” dance and the umbrella display in the first session.

The distinguished guests for the evening were Mr. Mutthu Raj, DCP Law & Order, Mysore, Ms Shilpa Nag, DC, Chamarajanagar, Mrs Shantha Chandran, mentor principal, Ms Caroline Louis, Head of TISB Training Academy and NPS Quality Assurance and our own Alumni Pranavi Urs, alumni of NPSI Mysore.

The second session began with the same zest as the first session. The slight drizzle did not hamper the spirits of the audience or the participants. The evening commenced on a spectacular note with displays and drills. The boys of classes 6,7 and 8 performed the saree drill while the girls presented a display with fans. Another remarkable display was put on by the students of classes 9 and 11 with the girls performing the ribbon dance and the boys presenting an energetic display with lezims.

The track events - the 100 metre races and the 4 x 100 metres relay were spell binding indeed. All the sprinters gave it their best shot and the nail biting finishes kept the audiences on the edge of their seats.

The parents also thoroughly enjoyed the show and also enthusiastically participated in a game of Tug of war and slow walking wherein each of them trying their best to win. Both sessions concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where the winners were felicitated with certificates and medals.

In short, Sportacus 2023 will always be cherished in the minds of both the students and parents exemplifying the true spirit of sportsmanship for the glory of NPSI and the honour of sports.
