REMINISCENCES - 2018 - 19
QShala 2019
On March 8 2019, a QShala session was held for the students of classes VI and VII in NPSI Mysore, where the students had a chance to interact with Mr. Sachin of QShala.
QShala, also known as QuizShala at its core, is about using the process of ‘out of the box’ quizzing to help children get a clear sense of the world. QShala plans to expand thinking beyond classrooms and start more real world quests. The students were given an insight into learning methods using quizzing as a technique. It was an initiative that stimulated their grey matter, propelling them to think laterally.
The students were intrigued by the amount of knowledge they were able to attain beyond the books. The QShala workshop was an enriching and insightful experience for all the students.
Guest Lecture on Tohoku University
The students of classes X and XII were gathered to be briefed on life and academics in the university, after Class XII, by Yuktesh Balaji, a proud alumnus of NPSI Mysore. He is currently a student of the prestigious Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. He enlightened the students on the various steps he took and the procedural formalities he followed, to get enrolled into the University of his Dreams.
The Tohoku University has been ranked No.3 in Japan, and stands as one of the top Universities for Science around the world. Yuktesh enlightened the students about how The Tohoku University provides students with an opportunity to work, while pursuing studies, and thus helps them become independent in their lives.
Emphasising about his venture into the field of science and engineering at the university, he shared his experiences in the year gone by at Tohoku.Yuktesh added that apart from being a prime education centre, Japan has a strong economic background, providing opportunities for upcoming entrepreneurs to invest in new business ideas and ventures. He suggested that the students could also get admissions into a University in Japan, which otherwise, is considered as only a tourist place by foreigners. These universities are also well equipped with infrastructure and trained and hardworking faculty members, who make learning, a great experience during the college years.
To conclude, he answered the questions of our ever inquisitive students with wit, humour and a gracious smile. A few anecdotes that he shared, will remain etched in our memories forever. It is always a pleasure to have career guidance and counseling from our senior NPS ites and this was one such opportunity provided to us, that widened our perspective and enriched our knowledge about options available to us after Class XII.
Guest Lecture on Mechanical Learning and Artificial Intelligence
On October 3, 2018 the students of NPS International Mysore were addressed by their very own alumnus, Lalith Narayan. Mr. Lalith is doing Electronics and Communications Engineering from PES University. He has done his research on Machine Learning and has interned at Huawei, Dataturks and an ML based startup. He has also worked with Polymer Electrolytes to improve power retention in battery life. Mr Lalith acquainted us with the technicalities of ML and the innovations that Artificial Intelligence has to offer. It was thrilling to know how Machine Learning can help in daily life and how it worked on the data provided along with conditions and algorithms. Mr. Lalith emphasized on the fact that innovation is the ability to provide sustainable and efficient solutions and the negligence towards it is equivalent to a crime. He felt that there is a dire need for new concepts and ideas to revolutionize the world, especially the ones that are cost effective. He also made us ponder about how Machine Learning and AI can guide people with the help of their suggestive systems and simplify the process of commerce. In the business world, AI is enabling businesses to work smarter, faster and improving synergies. He gave us invaluable information about the need for this change and how AI can surpass human intelligence given the speed at which they caught up to our current level of intelligence. We are indeed proud to have an alumnus who inspired, enlightened and motivated us to think ahead and realize that the future holds much more than what we are able to accomplish today.
