REMINISCENCES - 2017 - 18
Christmas – A time to give and rejoice everything around. Students of class 4 took part in the Christmas programme as their class assembly and made sure to spread the aura of the festive season to everyone around.
Good always overpowers the evil is what we all know but rarely notice and appreciate it in our lives. The skit enacted by the students depicting the birth of Jesus Christ clearly portrayed the moral; there is always victory for the good and defeat for the bad. It was a great reminder indeed for all of us.
It was followed by the melodious carols sung by the little ones from the pre-primary and then the 4th graders -Enchanting and Rhythmic.
To mark the importance of the Christmas, Mr Smith spoke a few words giving the audience some food for thought.
The celebration is never complete without a dance number. With the Santa Cap and the glittering gift boxes as their props, students danced their way on the foot-tapping numbers in the most vivacious manner.
The best was kept for the last – Santa along with his friend, the snow man driving through the premises of NPSI in a horse-cart surprised the students, their happiness in watching this was uncontained.
The programme concluded with pearls of wisdom from Ms Shubha Achaiah who highlighted on giving to make others happy.
As part of the World Environment Day, students of class IV and V took part in the seed ball making activity. During the process awareness regarding the issue of deforestation and the importance of seed ball activity was given. Students were asked to bring the seeds from home. The required kind of soil was kept ready in school. Each child was allowed to mix the soil to proper consistency and embed the seed in it making a ball with the same. The students enjoyed the process and each one of them made a few balls. The balls were allowed to dry for a day and then were sent home after two days. Students were guided to throw the seed balls that they made on a bare land near their houses and observe them grow. A small step taken with a huge expectation has surely brought a little hope for a good environment in their future.
Ninaad 2017- the musical event of NPSI Mysore was held on the 24 th November for juniors.
(Classes I to V) and 25 th November for seniors (Classes VI to XII). The most awaited weekend saw the musical fiesta spread over two days with two shows per day, with junior and senior performers from all the classes enthralling the audience with their talent. This year’s theme was Radio Ninaad which had the station set to 104.6 BIG FM.
On day one, the juniors portrayed various themes like Festivals, Folklore, Dreams and Seasons. The junior band team Les Incredibles, brought back to life the nostalgic classics from the 80s and chartbusters of the millennium. The foot tapping numbers, interspersed with a catchy jingle and RJ commentaries, left the audience mesmerized. The various groups, in their colourful attires, conveyed their themes perfectly. Each choir group showcased tremendous energy, enthusiasm, melody and confidence. Music is one of the bare necessities of life – this message was aptly conveyed through a finale number bringing together students from all the choir groups. Both the shows for the day were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
The next day, it was the seniors’ turn to enchant the audience! The themes showcased were an amalgamation of classical, western and eastern styles of music. The senior band, ‘Crossover’, took the stage by storm as they played hit songs of this year. The various choir groups had a message to convey to the audience- aptly called Navarasas, Hakuna Matata, Change is Constant and Spreading love and Peace. The senior RJs had the audience in splits with their commentaries spiced up with wit and humour. The Jingle Girls looked resplendent in blue and silver, rendering the catchy jingle in a tuneful way at regular intervals. The grand finale- The Circle of Life – was just the right melody to end the mega event.
The volunteers of Class XII executed their duties responsibly. In her keynote address to the gathering, the Principal Ms. Shubha Achaiah extolled on the importance of extracurricular activities as a necessity to build confidence amongst students.
Ninaad 2017 was yet another successful mega event of NPSI Mysore, which received a lot of positive feedback and appreciation from all quarters.
Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated at NPSI Mysore on 29 November 2017, in a grand manner. Kannada students of classes VI, VII and X took part in the programme. The programme started with the 'Nadageethe' sung by the teachers followed by a 'lavani' about the merging of Karnataka state, rendered by the students. Divya and Tanirika were the comperes for the programme. Students of class X presented a 'Gamaka Vachana' which was mesmerizing. There was a patriotic dance performed by class VI students. The highlight of the programme was a comedy which was enacted by some of the teachers. The audience enjoyed this hilarious comedy. Pictures in the backdrop enhanced the beauty of the programme. Pancham of class VII acknowledged the gathering. The vibrant variety of programmes in this celebration of Kannada Rajyotsava was thoroughly enjoyed by all present there.
On 31 August 2017, NPSI Mysore celebrated Teachers Day with immense pride. A day filled with events and games was planned by senior students of the school.
The programme started with the School Prefect, Gaurav Achaiah welcoming the teachers. This was followed by the school band who played some foot tapping, enthralling songs. Prithvi Y R and Chirag Srisrimal spoke about the importance of Teachers Day and Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan whose birthday is celebrated as Teachers Day. Students of class XI and XII danced gracefully for their teachers. A short movie made by students was played which was followed by Class XII walking the ramp. Students were in their bright ethnic attire which was delightful to the eyes of the audience.
After these events, the Prinicipal, Ms Shubha Achaiah, addressed the gathering stressing upon the importance of this profession which helps create professionals in all other fields. She thanked all the teachers for their tireless efforts each and every day. She praised the students on their excellent performance and said that it is heartening to see them grow and blossom in NPSI environment.
In the afternoon, there were games planned for the teachers by the students of class XII. Teachers were organized into several groups and were made to play dumbcharades, minefield, taboo, pictionary and treasure hunt. For teachers, it was a day with a perfect blend of fun and frolic and love and affection from the students.
Childhood is about innocence and playfulness.......it's about fun and enjoyment. A child who is happy today is a confident and positive adult tomorrow. This is what the students of NPSI Mysore experienced on 14 November 2017. As the students entered the school, the excitement and delight was visible by the big smiles on their faces as they saw the school embellished with big flowers, balloons, paper windmills and origami frocks and shirts. Each classroom was decorated in a unique way and the teachers were waiting to welcome their precious students. The faculty kept the children entertained the whole day with a plethora of events and competitions. The morning started with the singing and dance competitions of the senior students. It was great to watch a good number of students come up on the stage and showcase their talent. Following this, all the teachers put up a magnificent programme for the students. The students were thrilled to watch the teachers sing, dance and perform for the students. They cheered all the teachers as they made their appearance. The most heart touching moment for them was when the support staff of the school stepped on to the stage. Everybody was stunned and delighted. It was completely unexpected. The affection of the support staff was evident in their efforts. It was amazing to know how much the support staff care about the students. The principal, Ms Shubha Achaiah, greeted all the students on the special day and stressed that one should always keep the child in us alive. She also stated that the students always remain close to the teacher’s heart even when they have grown up. In the end, the School Prefect Gaurav Achaiah thanked all the teachers and support staff for their efforts to make the day special for each student of the school.
This children's day the students not only realized how great it is to be a child, but also felt grateful that their childhood is supported by amazing teachers and helpers who care enough to take them through this phase of life with a lot of care and affection.
French day is celebrated at NPS every year. This year, it was celebrated on Friday, 27 October. The programme began with the NPSI school song in French. The students of class VII sang it with great ease. Further, the importance of learning this beautiful language was expressed with a visual slide at the backdrop. Unknowingly, we have been using a lot of words in English which have been derived from French. A small quiz for the audience was conducted to test their knowledge on these words, followed by a beautiful rhythmic French song, leaving the audience mesmerized.
'Dream big but achieve it through the right path' is what was conveyed with a small skit enacted by the children with English subtitles on the backdrop for everyone to understand. The programme had a musical end, again with a French group song.
Every phrase was translated into English and every act inspired the children to opt for this globally demanding language.
It was a delightful show which all understood and regaled in.
Festival of lights Diwali is celebrated across the country by lighting earthern lamps. Each part of the country has different stories connected with the celebration of Diwali.
Diwali was celebrated on Tuesday, 17 October 2017 in NPSI Mysore. Students of class III took part to make the event a grand success. It was a treat to the eyes to see them dressed in traditional attire. The event was anchored by the students themselves. The programme was enlivened with a song on Diwali followed by a skit on Ramleela which depicts the story of Rama coming back with his wife Sita and beloved brother Lakshmana to Ayodhya after his 14 years of exile. This was followed by a dance.
The students were very excited and performed their best, which made the programme delightful to watch.
On 7 October 2017, NPSI Mysore conducted its fifth Young Entrepreneurship Programme (YEP) - One of the most sought after market days filled with business, innovation, creativity and a whole lot of fun! The students of classes VIII, XI and XII participated in this mega event. The air was buzzing with business ideas, brilliant creative products and aroma of delicious food which was the fruition of the persistent work of the students in the last few months. Bangle boxes, rice bag clutches, elegant block printed and denim bags, jute collections, trendy lamps, fragrant crayon candles, driftwood planters, classy folders and pen holders, pouches, key holders, mirrors, organizers, cushions, mats and fashionable accessories- the range had it all. The senior group of students even had delectable food products.
Each team had worked tirelessly to achieve finesse with the will to be better than the rest. Their marketing skills were put to the test on this fun filled entrepreneurial quest. In an attempt to save our planet, they made use of this opportunity to showcase their talent by using recycled materials for their products. YEP at NPSI is not just about business plans, it is also about lending a helping hand. All the profits generated from this day's sales each year are directed towards charity- an initiative to make a difference to the less fortunate citizens of the society.
Market Day 2017 was rhapsodic. The students were full of excitement. With classy innovative products, state of the art decor, perfect compering and tasty food all around, every participant was a winner.
To conclude; in our Principal Ms. Shubha Achaiah's words, YEP 2017 has been the best among the many we've witnessed so far.
Hindi Diwas was celebrated with great enthusiasm this year. The students of class VIII presented an enthralling programme on the occasion.
The programme began with an invocation which left all of us humming the song. The skit put up by the students about Bhakta Prahalad brought out the mythological significance of Holi. The skit was very colourful and informative too. This was followed by a medley of songs highlighting the celebration and glory of festivals. Next was the long awaited dance. Students danced gracefully and left the audience foot tapping to the tune. Ms Nandini Pai the events coordinator spoke about the importance of Hindi as a National language. Altogether it was a wonderful show put up by the students to enhance the pride for our National Language.
On 11 August 2017, NPSI Mysore held its first interschool sports event. A total of 6 schools participated including the students of NPSI, Mysore. The Principal, Ms Shubha Achaiah, declared the event open by releasing black and white balloons which soared high in the sky heralding the height of success of this event. The events conducted were throwball, football, basketball, lawn tennis, relay and swimming. A surprise event, the triathlon was the grand finale of the fest and an enthralling feast for the eyes of the spectators. On the whole, we are proud to say that the fest was exciting, energetic and very satisfying. The participants had an amazing time and the proof is the feedback board which was displayed for the students to write on and express their views.
Children of Pre-primary celebrated Independence Day on 16 August 2017. The programme started with the national anthem and the teacher briefed the children about the importance of Independence Day. Some children had dressed up as freedom fighters and spoke their words with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm.
The programme concluded as the children sang 'Hum Hongey Kamyab' and 'Our Flag'. The children were very excited and were waiting to relish their tricolour snacks, diligently created and packed by their enthusiastic parents. They enjoyed looking at each other’s tricolour snack box and had a fun filled day. It was indeed a day that left the students with fond memories.
On 15 August 2017, the 71st Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and spirit at NPS International, Mysore. The programme began with the Principal , Ms Shubha Achaiah, unfurling and saluting the national flag. Thereafter, the National Anthem sung by the students and staff filled the atmosphere with a feeling of oneness and pride. In her address, the Principal emphasized the need to display patriotism every single day of the year starting from one’s immediate circle of interaction. She spoke about the importance of being aware of the sacrifices made by our soldiers to keep us safe. Regarding Swach Bharat Abhiyaan, she stressed that it has to start from the self, surroundings, locality and then taken further. The students took an oath to keep our country free from terrorism, corruption, poverty and discrimination based on caste or religion. The students of class VII, dressed in tricolour, presented a colourful programme. It started with the song 'Jhanda Uncha Rahe Hamara' which invoked a feeling of deep pride and respect for our country. The students performed a dance, sang patriotic songs and recited quotes of great freedom fighters, highlighting the lives sacrificed for the freedom of our country. It was a heart- rendering tribute to the heroes who are an internal source of inspiration.
The Investiture Ceremony of NPSI Mysore was held on 23 June, 2017. It is one of the most awaited events of the year as all the chosen representatives are initiated into their respective roles. The word 'Investiture' means honouring individuals with positions of responsibility and authority.
The programme started with the declaration of the names of those selected as Association Heads. Each leader was personally introduced citing their strengths and talents. We also had a surprise – the Executive Leader. The grade V put up an energetic and enthusiastic performance with their inspirational song and rhythmic beats. As each House Leader and deputy was announced, the respective Houses cheered and applauded with great enthusiasm. Our Principal presented the badges to all the elected members and also rendered the oath to all the new leaders. They took the pledge to hold the school motto 'Reach Out, Reach High, Reach Beyond' in high esteem; to deliver their duties to the best of their abilities and honour the trust bestowed upon them The House leaders held up their respective House flags with pride.
The Principal Ms Shubha Achaiah, in her speech congratulated the newly appointed school Council members and Association leaders which truly inspired the elected and selected leaders. She emphasised that leaders must be humble and must take others along. They must take satisfaction in growing others in their respective teams and learn as they lead.
The school Prefect Gaurav Achaiah, Sports Captain Poorna S Bhat and the school Executive Rohit Goel in their speeches, promised to discharge their duties in the most proactive and diligent manner.
The programme concluded with all present singing the school song with great pride and sense of belonging.
International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on the summer solstice. NPSI Mysore conducted 'yoga workshop' on 21 June 2017 with great spirit for the students and teachers to mark the day.
The school had invited well experienced yoga instructors Ms Prathima, Ms Archana and Mr Raghavendra from Indeayoga Organization whose aim is to teach and spread awareness on yoga. The students were first instructed to have a seat and chant ‘Om’kara to commence the session. The guide gave a set of instructions to perform certain asanas, meditation to energize the body and mind. They moved onto the next practice, which were five rounds of the well-known surya-namaskara. One of the instructors gave verbal instructions to perform the tasks and another demonstrated in sync with the commands. This particular asana posed challenge to some of the participants. The session ended with relaxation exercise to cool down. The instructor stressed on the fact that we need to inhale the future and exhale the past. The workshop endowed the students and teachers with knowledge of new practices and the benefits which we all can earn from practicing yoga to improve overall health.
The school also conducted bulletin board competitions on topics such as 'Yoga for Modern Mind', 'Great Leaders of Yoga', 'Research in the Field of Yoga' and 'Recent Trends in Yoga'. The students were full of energy and enthusiasm to adapt yoga as part of their daily routine.
On 14 June 2017 Founder’s Day was celebrated with great spirit and fervour. The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Dr K P Gopalakrishna, founder and Chairman of NPS Group of Institutions. He addressed the students of Class XI and XII and extolled the importance of broadened vision and focus on higher education abroad for increased exposure and learning. He emphasized that every member of the teaching fraternity looks forward to see the students successfully settled in their lives.
The programme in the auditorium commenced at 11 am with the students of Classes V- XII and teachers as audience. The programme began on a melodious note with the students of Class X rendering a song in Sanskrit. This was followed by an address by the Principal Ms Shubha Achaiah. Ms Shubha expressed her gratitude to Dr K P Gopalakrishna. She also thanked Mr Diwakar, Chief Architect of our building, for his contribution. She spoke about the niche that NPS Mysore has created for itself in just a span of four years, making it one of the top schools in Mysore. She said that it was indeed gratifying to see our alumni, placed in various prestigious institutions in India and abroad. She made a special mention of the fourteen students and twenty four staff members who have been with the institution since its inception. Ms Shubha specially thanked all the branches of NPS for extending their support in the last four years and said that NPSI Mysore is successful today due to the collective efforts of all and with Dr K P Gopalakrishna as the driving force. "Four years, but the legacy moves on forever" were her words as she signed off wishing every member of the NPS family the very best in all their endeavours.
The fourteen students of Class XII who joined NPSI Mysore in its first year, stole the show, as they spoke of their experience in the school and how this institution has shaped them into confident and enthusiastic young individuals, all set to take on the world as they graduate in 2018. They expressed pride in calling themselves "NPSites" and added that this identity was very special to them. They thanked the teachers and all staff members for helping them blossom, in both academics and extracurricular activities and for helping them move towards their goals.
The yearly magazine of NPSI Mysore, Silhouette, was released by Dr K P Gopalakrishna. An exquisite work of art, depicting the school logo, made by Chandana M, a student of Class 12 was also released on the occasion.
The programme concluded on a positive note with everyone looking forward to another year of learning and success, in the words of the comperes, "This is the beginning of another beginning..."
The Connectfor parentsand students classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 was conducted on Friday, 2 June 2017.
The Principal, Ms Shubha Achaiah welcomed the gathering, and said that she was trying to connect after a long break. She thanked the parents for believing in the institution. She spoke about the positive school environment which paved the way for the all round development of the students right from an early age.
The expectations of the school were displayed as slides and motivating videos about success was played. Videos sent by Rohit Iyengar and Saloni Wadhwa – Class of 2016, were played, where they spoke about the privileges of being an NPSite and the difference it had made in their lives. Vishnu and Ananya HS of the outgoing batch shared their experiences too.
The program concluded with Ms Mansi and her team from One step and Ms Mukhta from The Princeton Review, who spoke about the careers and PSAT and SAT exams that can be taken by the students. The program threw light on various aspects which was informative, enlightening and refreshing for everyone gathered in the auditorium.
The difference between succeeding and not succeeding is the difference between doing exactly right and almost right. NPSI, Mysore geared up to begin its journey into the fifth academic year 2017-18, with a sizeable number of new students. ‘The Connect’ was therefore held for the parents of the new entrants across classes I to VIII on Thursday, 1 June, 2017 in the school Conference Room.
With the school premises spurced up, the celebratory vibe was felt in every corner. The parents were extended a warm welcome by the Principal, Ms Shubha Achaiah. The presentation acquainted the parents with the system of functioning of the school and various technicalities involved.
The parents were told about the Vision and Mission of NPS group and the child centric approach followed by the school, keeping in mind the changing trends in the education system. The School curriculum is customized to infuse holistic development of the child, thereby improving his/ her communication skills and confidence levels.
The Principal also briefed about the importance of being regular to school, participating in activities and being well groomed. The emphasis was on making parents as partners along with the school in the learning journey of the child.
The Teachers Training Programme (TTP) is conducted every year in the school premises before the beginning of the academic year. This is a training programme for the new teachers and a refresher for the other teachers. This year TTP started on 19 May 2017 and concluded on 30 May 2017.
The first session of the programme was with the Principal, Ms Shubha, welcoming all the teachers to the bright new academic year. She emphasized on communication skills and inter- personal skills as key areas for teachers and students. She appreciated the teachers for their efforts in the previous academic year at making the process of learning interesting for students by incorporating creative teaching methods and activity based learning. She encouraged them to continue these with renewed enthusiasm and new techniques this year.
Each day of the TTP, there were several training sessions conducted by teachers on various topics including Roles and Responsibilities of Teachers, Learning Differences in Children, and Active Learning Techniques. Besides these training sessions, each day also had something special for all the teachers in the form of games or songs or dance which practically demonstrated to the new teachers the significant concept of making learning an enjoyable process for students.
From 24 May 2017 to 30 May 2017, TTP was conducted by the facilitators from different branches of NPS Bangalore. The training programme left the teachers full of information, enthusiastic to carry forward and build over the strong foundation laid and ready to embrace another soulful academic year.
