REMINISCENCES - 2017 - 18
Pondering Around the Post Office
A field trip is one of the best tools that can provide every student with a real world experiences. It contributes to their understanding of the world. Keeping this in mind, students of class III were taken to the local post office as a part of their social science activity on 20 February 2018.
The excitement had no limits as the students headed towards the post office. They reached the place at the right time when some postmen were departing from the post office to dispatch their share of posts to their respective addresses. One of the staff members took the students around and explained them about the various works done at the post office. He introduced them to different types of stamps, post cards and postal covers. They were also shown the place where they segregate the posts according to their pin codes.
On the whole, it was an amazing experience for the students to interact with the people working at the post office.
A TEAM WITH A DREAM-Kaliyuva mane
- A learning paradise
Someone has said, 'We are all different. Don't judge, understand instead' and this is exactly what was portrayed at Kaliyuva mane. Class X students of NPSI Mysore, were taken for a field trip to an unconventional school, 'Kaliyuva mane' on Thursday, 18 January 2018 which was founded by Mr Ananth Kumar and run by Divya Deepa trust. Mr Ananth briefed the students about how they educate children from diverse backgrounds and some with learning disabilities. The school does not follow any conventional methods of teaching but at the same time has implemented innovative ideas to reinforce concepts. Mr Deepak took our students for a campus tour and introduced them to the various aspects of the school. From the Pythagoras theorem written on the doors to Kids court and bank, every corner of the school made an attempt to instil knowledge.
The school teaches the students social as well as life skills. The most fascinating part was that the whole school runs on an alternative source of energy - solar power. The school owns a water treatment plant and students are taught the basic nuances of farming. Currently the school is semi residential with 92 students, but from next year onwards it will be transformed to a complete residential school. To supplement their income, they collect and sell old newspapers. Teachers are also involved in making handmade greeting cards out of used papers and cloth which will be sold in the market. Our students interacted with some of them and also shared the dance floor. It was delightful to be in the school campus as the students appeared cheerful and lively.
No doubt, Mr Ananth and his team are pioneers as they build a better generation of people. We as a team thanked Mr Ananth and Mr Deepak whole heartedly with a token of appreciation in the form of a card made by one of our students and gifted a few story books. It was an eye opening fieldtrip for everybody as it was a great learning experience.
FIELD TRIP TO RAILWAY MUSEUM
The children of KG2 visited the railway museum as an extension of their lesson in the curriculum. The objective of the trip was to reinforce the concept of means to travel and how railways play an important role. On reaching the venue, the children headed towards the Chamundi Gallery which explained the evolution of the locomotive industry. They were taken on a tour of the Maharani's coach which is a specially designed and customized wagon. The children raised a number of interesting questions based on everything they saw. The toy train ride, where they experienced a real train goes through a tunnel. On this trip, accompanied by their teachers they shouted with joy. It was indeed a great experience. It was snack time for the children and they enjoyed having their snacks outdoors and spending time with each other. The children also posed for photographs. Time flew and it was time to head back to school from a fun filled field trip. It was indeed a trip to remember!
Field Trip to Manav Bhavan
- An Anthropological Museum
The field trip to Manav Bhavan- an Anthropological Museum was a wonderful experience for class IX students. Students enjoyed a trove of knowledge they gained from the insight into human behavior, culture and experiences in the context of today’s and past societies.
As one of the class IX social science chapters deals with the origins, cultural development, biological characteristics, social customs, and beliefs of pastoralists, students were shown a documentary based on the diverse anthropology in India and the Gaddi shepherds of Himachal Pradesh which gave additional information on their class IX curriculum. The museum housed artifacts: ancient and tribal artifacts excavated from around India like pots, vessels, jewellery were totally a learning of the cultures of the past through documentation and analysis of material remains.
They were explained about various species that existed before Homo sapiens and how they evolved with the help of different skeletal brain models. It also throws light on the evolution of language and its implication in our cultures. Tools used by the early man, tribal and pastoralists community of India were at display with an explanation of how it was all used/ or being used till date.
Students of class IX were one happy bunch, who thoroughly enjoyed the two hours of stroll around the museum, brimming with questions; they interacted with the speaker and enhanced their knowledge. The trip offered a perfect platform for effective learning.
An Excellent Trip To Zoo
On 17 January 2018 the students of Class II were all geared up to go on their field trip. They sang songs and played games all through the journey.
Mysore zoo is the one of the biggest zoos in South India. The zoo spreads over several acres of land, and there is an iron enclosure all round.
As we entered, we were greeted by chirping of the birds. There was a beautiful pond in which we saw water birds like ducks, swans and cranes. We moved ahead and came to the deer park. The deer were grazing on the green grassy patches. We then moved on to the section of wild animals. There we saw lions, tigers, bears, leopards and panthers. These beasts were kept in separate cages. There was a white tiger which attracted big crowd. We were filled with awe to look at the majestic gait of tigers and lions. We also saw giraffe, zebra, rhinoceros and wolves. Crocodiles, alligators and tortoises were kept in separate tanks. There were different varieties of snakes kept in the glass houses. A hissing white coloured cobra appeared with its hood open. There were big pythons too.
We came out of the zoo with joy and happiness. It was an educative and entertaining field trip.
Visit to B.V Pundit Ayurveda Factory - Nanjangud
Field Trips are always a welcome as it involves both fun and learning and the experiences gained through it always go a long way in learning.
The Class 11A and B students visited the B.V Pundit centre for Ayurveda in Nanjangud. As we entered the premises we were awestruck by the antique finishes to the 101 year old building. Ayurveda, as we later learned from Mr. Rajesh, is an ancient science that was developed nearly centuries ago. This branch of medicine does not include only plants but makes full use of nature’s resources like animal products and minerals as well. We were given a tour around the factory. We were shown different processes that occur in manufacturing various ayurvedic products. As we moved from one station to the other, we were offered samples, like dry ginger and the yummy and healthy chavanprash .
We were thrilled to see so many day to day products like oil, digestive tablets, etc manufactured using ayurvedic means. It was indeed a great learning experience for both, the science as well as the commerce students.
Mr. Rajesh tactfully covered both the aspects; the scientific processes involved and the business acumen required for becoming a successful entrepreneur.
