    Impressive Expressions, Expressive Impressions

On August 28 2019, we the students of class IX went to attend the block printing workshop located at ‘The Hobby Place’. We were very excited and restless to get into to the bus and reach there. As we arrived and got down the bus, we met Ms.Vanitha who runs the “Blocks smiths” workshop. We were told all about block printing, its origin, its influence, its role and many more. We started printing with bright colours laid out in front of us. We were given various blocks with intricate designs and Ms.Vanitha demonstrated how to use them.

We were given a fabric to fill up with various designs, with the blocks after which the cloth was used to make buttons for us. We were given brown paper covers to make gift wraps, after which a pencil pouch and hand kerchief were given, to dab and print with the blocks of our favourite designs. We really poured our creativity and designing skills into the material given to us. We thoroughly enjoyed the process. Then we were given a two meters long fabric to write NPS on it. We used all possible block designs to write NPS and also make borders. Yes, we made a lovely banner for our school and held it with pride for some nice capture of pictures.

The whole workshop resulted in a bunch of creative, colourful ideas that were so elegant and striking. The experience was most important; the value of our traditional printing which was long forgotten and we understood how simple techniques can make remarkable designs. We together pledged not to use plastic anymore and make a difference to our environment.
