Learning with Joy
Every day is a joy to learn new concepts for our KG-I children. They enjoy their day learning something new, which helps them gain confidence in themselves.
The first few years of learning have the greatest impact on a child’s lifelong development; therefore, the learning curve approach is to introduce the child to new concepts and ideas in an engaging manner. The children have time to express their natural ability with a lot of learning activities, physical activities, music and movement as well as time for snacks. When children enjoy what they are doing, they learn faster and grasp concepts better.
We had various activities for our KG-I children. The first activity was water activity where children sailed paper boats in the baby pool. In another activity the children were encouraged to match cursive letters with the upper case letters. A story flash card with letter 'z' was given to the children where children had to identify only the letter 'z' and place the letter 'z' on it. An activity 'Who am I' for letter 'w' was conducted by playing music, where the children moved around all the letters which were stuck on the floor till the music stopped, the child standing on the letter ‘w’ was the winner who had to identify the letter and say the sound of the letter. "Bag the b objects" was another activity where children had to identify only 'b' objects and fill it in the bag.
As its Christmas season, our lovely children had a craft activity where they helped each other to decorate the class. They made a Christmas tree with ice-cream sticks and decorated it with buttons.
Knowledge is Fun
A child's mind is like a sponge and soaks in with ease the information given.
Every day is a new and exciting day for our KGI children. Even as they play they learn many things and their personality and learning abilities blossom.
Hence, we had hands on activity like writing letter 'u' in the umbrella, circling letter 'e' in the engine, placing the right letter to the picture inside the balloon, ringing the objects for the given letter activity, feeding the duck activity, mailing the letter inside the box, circling the letter 'l' in the short story 'The little lamb'. This helped the children to learn, understand the concept of numbers and letters better.
Germination was done in a coconut shell to show the different stages of plant. The children were very happy to see the seeds germinate. Zero the Hero activity was also carried out to understand the concept of zero
Play Learn and Grow Together
To refresh our preschoolers memory of letter recognition as well as knowing the sounds for each letter, this activity of identifying the letter and placing the picture associated to the letter was a fun activity for preschoolers to learn while playing! For Independence Day a tri- colour activity was also conducted. Children carried tri colour snacks to school, significance of Tri colour was taught to the children. For activity with numbers, students of KGI had a 50mts race on synthetic track, children were lined up on the track which was numbered. Athletes were also given numbers and instructed to run as the whistle blows to the finishing point. Children responded to the oral instructions given, using ordinal numbers they also used the mathematical vocabulary appropriately.
Outdoor games are always fun! As we know playing outside gives children the chance to socialize with their peer group, they also develop self-confidence. Physical activities are good for health, fitness and physical development. Outdoor Games including Basketball, Cricket, Swimming, Relay and Running race were conducted .Children enjoyed running on the track, playing on the hand ball court, jumping into the baby pool with their colourful swimming costumes.
Creativity is Fun
We had a fun filled activity where the children did craft work for the number name representing the flower with the correct petals for the given number. To improve the level of concentration, observation and analytical reasoning children were given puzzle to build words and understand the concept better. These activities help them in understanding vowels, reading, writing and to improve communication skills. Independence Day was celebrated with tricolor snacks which were enjoyed by all the students. Children were very happy to see saffron, white, and green colours and understood the importance of each colour in detail. A craft activity using the three colours was also conducted. On another day children were taken for swimming and they had great fun. Everyone had a splash in the water wearing their colourful costumes and it was a day to remember for them.
Colourful Ball Drop
On a white chart paper tubes of six different colour papers were attached. The white chart paper was mounted on the wall. A tray full of different coloured balls added a lot of happiness and excitement to students. Each child was called and asked to pick up colourful balls and pass it through the same colour tube which falls down into the tray. This was such a fun filled, sensory activity. Children were totally involved in the activity.
