Environment Education Activity
An activity was conducted with the class IV students to enhance awareness about the importance of saving our environment by saving electricity. The students were made aware of how saving electricity is a crucial thing in modern day and how small steps can be taken at home to save it. They were encouraged to speak about it with family members in order to ensure conservative power consumption.
The students brought the electricity bill of their house and highlighted the bill amount. They were reminded about saving electricity from time to time and the next month they again brought the electricity bill. A comparison was made between the bill amounts of two months. There was a visible difference in the bill showing the impact of the activity. The students were happy to have been able to make a difference.
Save Water
The students of grade 4 were asked to make a poster on ‘Save Water’ and talk about it for a minute. The posters presented by them clearly conveyed the message and a good poster is the best way to convey a huge message in a nutshell. The quotations and one-liners used on the poster created awareness among the viewers. Some students also made short poems on 'Save Water' which displayed their creative involvement in the task given.
It is certainly a treat for teachers to watch the students speak so confidently and gracefully on the topic given.
Walking Towards The Green World
Class IV students enacted a role play on the ‘पत्थर का पत्थर’ by wearing a simple costume and few tools. They enacted it in the school ground. This play aimed at creating expressive use of language and expressions. It brought out good ethics and taught about morality in an elaborate and enjoyable way. It also gave a new sense of humour and other such aspects needed in a cheerful student. This role play also created an awareness about protecting our Mother Earth from pollution.
How the Parsis Came to India
The students of class IV were thrilled to prepare and present a role-play. The role-play was about the advent of Parsis to India. Each student knew his/her role well. It was amazing for the teachers to watch their students perform with lot of zeal and confidence. The perfect intonation and articulation put forward by the children was a pleasant surprise. The process of learning became joyful and students indeed outdid themselves.
Activity on Lowest Common Multiple
The activities and games make the process of learning more interesting and effective. The setting up of a mathematics laboratory is an attempt in this direction. It gives more scope for individual participation. It encourages students to become autonomous learners and allows a student to learn at his or her own speed.
We do many Math Lab activities for different concepts being taught in the class. One such activity was done for class IV on "Lowest Common Multiple" using number grid sheet and different coloured buttons to represent multiples of different factors. The activity helped the students to understand the concept of multiples, common multiples and to identify the lowest common multiple.
Averages Activity
Children learnt averages. They performed an activity to apply the concept they had learnt.
The students were divided into groups of 5. They recorded their heights. Then they found their average height using the formula. Then they presented the data which helped them to analyse it.
Children thoroughly enjoyed the activity.
Aa-Ha-Decimals
In order to discover the rules of multiplication in decimals, children used a 10X10 grid sheet in which they applied the basic concept of representing fraction. They represented the multiplicand and the multiplier as fractions; one horizontally and the other vertically using different colours. They found that the area of intersection of both the numbers became the product!!
And that was really an AA-Ha- experience for them!
