Role Play
A role play activity was conducted for class V students. The students prepared for the activity in groups of five. The topics given to them were part of their lesson 'Struggle for Independence.' The students presented the role play on topics covering: the Dandi March, the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Swadeshi Movement and the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
The students referred to the information given in their textbook and other resources. They used various props and enacted a role play portraying the important movements in India's struggle for independence. The students developed an enhanced understanding of the historical events and all of them were excited to take on different roles.
Collage Making and Presentation
Class V students took part in a collage making and presentation activity on the topic 'Natural Disasters'. The students were divided into groups and allotted a topic each like earthquakes, floods, cyclones, droughts and tsunamis. The students prepared a collage in the class with the pictures for their respective topics.
Next was the group presentation stage. Each of the group members elaborated on an aspect of the topic given to them. The students defined the particular calamity, gave reasons for their occurrence, steps to be taken to prevent them and precautions to be followed during a natural disaster. After every presentation, there was a question time. All the students were encouraged to ask questions and clarify their doubts. Peer teaching and learning was evident as they discussed various issues relating to natural calamities.
Best Out Of Waste
An activity was conducted for the students of grade V on ‘Reclamation’. The students used waste and unwanted materials and turned them into useful models. Each of the students was asked to present their model before the class explaining about how they executed their project. The creative models displayed by the students were awe-inspiring for teachers too. It certainly shows that the young minds have no bounds in thinking out of the box.
It was indeed a visual treat to the viewers.
Vegetable Printing
Early methods of communication have always intrigued mankind. Oral communication giving way to early methods of printing was of great interest to class 5 students. Discussing about how blocks were used to print, a hands on activity was planned for the students. Students brought blocks / designs made from potatoes, carrots and other vegetables to make designs of their own on paper. Dabbling with paint and creating a variety of prints, students brought in creativity at the same time understanding the importance of any language. Students eagerly printed their names and made elaborate designs which they displayed proudly.
Group Discussion – Melting Ice Caps
The changing climate on Earth has always been an interesting topic of discussion, with new facts and revelations coming forth. Students of class 5A presented a group discussion on the topic ‘Melting Ice Caps,’ on 16 August, as part of their class activity in Social Science.
Students were made into groups and asked to prepare on various area of this topic. They were then asked to present their topic in class, resulting in an informative discussion. Students felt strongly about the effects of pollution on the environment, expressing their apprehension about what could happen to life on Earth if sea levels rose.
A great deal of information was shared through this discussion and it was amazing to note that students were well aware of the dwindling flora and fauna in the polar regions. Each one was eager to share what ‘more’ they knew about the melting ice caps and ways to prevent this.
