Curiosity is the Essence of Learning

Being curious is the greatest way to grow. This month was wonderful and an adventurous month for our KG II children, as it was a journey of exploration and discovery. In EVS, they did experiments for the lessons like air and water. They understood the properties of air and water by doing simple experiments. Values like saving water, preventing air and water pollution to save earth were taught to them. They also learnt the life cycle of a butterfly, frog and hen, where they observed the different stages of growth in the life of these animals. They enjoyed an audio visual aid for different landforms on earth.
In Numeracy, they learnt vertical subtraction, place values of tens and ones with the help of activities like grouping ice-cream sticks into bundles of tens and ones to understand that every two digit number have place value of tens and ones. They were shown a clock to read the time. The face of the clock was explained and all of them took turns to set the clock. The concept greater than and less than numbers was done with hands on activity. 3-D shapes were introduced with the help of 3-D objects.
In Literacy some more topics in picture composition and creative writing were given. Revision of sight words, alternate sounds, diagraphs, vowels and grammar were done. Regular dictation is helping them to build their vocabulary and writing skills. Reading done during the reading programme is making them more confident to go to the next level of reading books.
There were letters introduced in Kannada and Hindi with activities which has helped them to understand the formations of letters. Rhymes are also taught to make it interesting.
Children enjoyed making crafts like paper plate polar bear with cotton and colouring a paper plate and making a frog. Many more activities were done in their art and craft book.
Time to play and have fun with learning

The children of KG II had a month filled with fun and joy. They enjoyed learning various topics. In Literacy, they learnt articles, where they understood the usage of 'a' and 'an'. 'Oneand many' was taught with objects. Children came up with interesting sentences for picture composition. Sight words are read regularly to make reading easier.
In Numeracy, children learnt the concept of addition and subtraction by using objects and having some fun activities with puzzles.
In EVS, they learnt how they can be safe by keeping away from things that cause harm to them. Children enacted to show that good manners are very essential in day to day life, as they can make them a better person.
There were letters introduced in Kannada and Hindi with activities which helped them to understand the formations of letters. Rhymes were also taught to make it interesting.
Art and Craft brought out their talents and creativity. Children made paper cup Cristmas craft in class and they also brought one from home. Each and every craft looked beautiful. They also had a class activity, for which they had the topic ‘Go Green’. Children spread the message to go green and save our earth to make it a better place to live in.
It was a memorable month for our little kindergarteners who took pride in winning the Carol singing competition.
Ways of Learning
Students of KG I had a fun way of learning letters, a story was narrated 'The Lazy Lion'. In this lesson children had to listen carefully, understand and retell the sequence of the story. It was written on a big chart paper. Each child had to circle only the 'L' letters and also count the number of L's. This helps in recognition of letters and also counting. A cut out of a big umbrella was drawn and stuck on the wall. Children used color pencils and wrote on it. They were very happy to see the formation of the letters on the umbrella.
Concept of number 'After' was explained with an interesting activity. Children had to hold the flash cards and then each child was called with their flash cards of number and the child had to stand next to the number 'After'.
The process of 'Germination' was explained with an exciting activity, in which children put soil in a coconut shell, sowed the seeds and water it daily to see the different stages of the plant growth. From this activity, children learnt that air, water and sunshine is essential for 'germination'.
Learning in the Rhythm of Nature
There were a lot of interactive sessions for the KG II, which helped them to understand the concepts better.
In Literacy, children enhanced their phonetic skills by learning alternate sounds. In grammar they learnt about gender, framing sentences with 'this', 'that' and few topics were given for creative writing. This helped them to develop their vocabulary and writing skills.
In Numeracy, children learnt to identify the different 2D shapes with hands on activity. They had to draw and colour the shapes.
In EVS, children enjoyed outdoor activities like sowing the seed to know more about germination. They were taken for a walk in the nature to show them the different kinds of plants around them. They learnt to identify the different parts of the plant.
Children were given small earthen pots to fill the garden soil and were asked to sow the seeds that were given to them and were encouraged to see the growth of the plant. There was also a small experiment done with the topic "sink and float" where children learnt the difference between light and heavy objects.
Children were introduced to Kannada and Hindi languages by making it a fun filled experience for them. They were taken out to the play area where they had a treasure hunt game.
In art and craft children had to stick whiskers on the cat made by paper plate and on, which they had to write all the words beginning with the diagraph "wh".
There were interesting stories also, one of them was the story of the "Ginger Bread Man" which was enacted by the children themselves with the help of puppets.
Understanding Different Concepts
Various hands on activities were conducted in KG I to make learning more fun. Children were given a strip of newspaper and asked to identify the letter 'o' in the paragraph and to circle it using the orange crayon, this made them to concentrate and recognize the letter 'o' better.
Magic with letter 'm' was done using a wax candle. Children had to write the letter using a candle and then paint the same. They were excited to see their formation of the letter 'm' appear as they painted neatly.
In an activity, children were shown different objects and explained the concepts of identifying the odd objects. The objects all looked similar, one was of a different shape and size, and they had to identify the odd one. They also understood what comes before and after the objects, what looks similar and different. Children enjoyed this activity, this helped them to identify, match, observe, visually discriminate and to understand better.
Children were given a cut out of a small tree. Red apples made out of wool were also given to them. They had to stick the apple according to the given number. This made them count numbers and associate the quantities.
'The Lion and the Rabbit' and 'The Great Big Turnip' story was narrated with settings and stick puppets. Children were engrossed listening to the story with great interest and understood the moral which was to be Wise and to be United Always.

The month of September was a fun filled month for the KG II children. They had a lot of hands on activities like duck in the pond , busy bugs, role play , pegging the socks in 2's, speaking about their favourite vehicle which were done for topics like 'u' family rhyming words, skip counting, people who help us, transport, etc. in EVS, Literacy and Numeracy. Children involved themselves and were encouraged to learn better. They had various craft activities for Blends and Diagraphs in Literacy. A speaking activity was done where each one had a chance to express, which helped them enhance their vocabulary skills. They were taken on a field trip to the fire station to see the fire fighters. Students were thrilled when they saw the fire engine and the fire fighters in their uniform. It was joyful to see our students getting into the baby pool, splashing in the water and enjoying themselves too. There were exciting outdoor activities conducted like Cricket , Basketball and running race as well.
Creative Learning
Many interesting activities were conducted in KG I to make learning more fun and exciting. To understand the concept of numbers better, children were taken to the turf area. They were encouraged to form a circle. They kept singing with great joy. When a particular number was called the learners grouped themselves to form a group of that particular number that was called out. This activity helped them understand numbers better and it enhanced their numeracy skills.
To understand the concept of zero, an activity with colored plastic balls was conducted using a big glass bowl. This helped them to understand the concept that zero means nothing and has no value.
Show and tell activity for the topic," People who help us" was conducted in class. Children dressed in various costumes like, nurse, doctor, painter, gardener, airhostess, builder etc. They spoke about the profession with great pride using the necessary and adequate props. This helped them to gain a lot of confidence and enhanced their speaking skills.
To understand phonic sounds better, many letters were given to the learners. These letters were wrapped in the form of a candy and the game was called "Candy Crush".
They had to identify only the letter 'c' and 'k'. This activity helped them to identify and learn the initial sound of the letter and associate it with the letter that represents the sound.
Brimming with Joy
The month began with lots of activities in KG II. In Language, topics like nouns and verbs were taught in grammar. Children enjoyed the activity for nouns where they had to identify the names of person, place, animal and things. They played the Charades game for verbs where the students received a secret word and had to enact it to the other members of the team. They also had to identify the action verbs, like: running, flying, laughing etc. Introduction of 'e' and 'i' family was done by narrating a story along with activities like Word building chart, flash cards with vocabulary and illustrations, dressing up with head gears and bracelets. All the students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the various activities.
In Numeracy, various pre-number concepts like big/small, long/short, heavy/light and tall/short were introduced with objects and hands on activities.
The children learnt the six steps of washing hands to keep themselves hygienically clean and healthy as a part of an activity for the topic 'My Body'. Topics like 'My Family', 'My Home' and 'My School' were introduced by the teachers with models, role play and an exciting tour around the school.
Learning is Fun
Various activities are conducted in KG I class to make learning more interesting and interactive. In order to understand the letter 't' children had to stick pictures related to 't' on a cutout of a big tree.
Children were given many objects of different types and had to choose which objects start with 'p' and put them in a big pan. Another interesting activity was conducted in which different flash cards of various pictures of things beginning with 'i' were all mixed in a tray. This was followed by Pick and Speak prompting students to speak one or two sentences about the 'i' word written on the card.
A game of treasure hunt was organized where the children had to search and find the flash cards with 'a' words hidden at different places in the class.
To make numeracy more interesting a fun game Hop, Skip and Jump was organized. Using the number flash cards arranged on the floor when a number was called out the child had to look for the number and Hop, Skip and Jump towards it and stand on that particular number. This activity helped in the recognition of numbers.
During the story telling period a story was narrated and the children had to narrate and enact the same using props. They were delighted and thrilled about it. This ensured vocabulary building and boosted their confidence.
Its Fun to Learn Hands on!
Learning was made interesting through the activity 'Hand in Hand' in KG I. It helped to understand the concept of colours and their names. Children had to observe and recognize a particular colour and place the right colour in the respective colour tubes. It helped to capture the various shades of colour and the essence that each colour represents.
Names, size, shape and health benefits of various fruits were explained in detail. Children were asked to bring their favourite fruit to class and celebrate fruit salad day. They relished every bit of the fruit salad and enjoyed thoroughly.
Learning letter 'S' was made easy with an activity using phonic skills and formation of letter 's'. Words that start with letter 's' were spoken about, children had to pick the picture of letter 's' and stick them on a big picture of a soap as bubbles. Some students could even frame meaningful sentences, this helped them to enrich their vocabulary.
A challenging activity was conducted to introduce shapes using ice-cream sticks, where they could form the basic shapes seen in and around them. This helped them to get more clarity about shapes and their names.
A fun game was conducted to analyze and associate numbers with objects, using a ring to circle the correct number.
Play and Learn
The students of KGII had fun filled activities such as Treasure Hunt, Cherry Game and Word Slider. They enjoyed participating in these activities along with their teacher. The children were thrilled to see their reflection in the mirror as a part of the topic 'Myself'. They were also excited to enact as weather reporters and to give a detailed report of the weather. The children were awestruck to see their teacher dressed up like a rabbit to introduce 'a' family rhyming words. They were accompanied by their teachers for a yoga session on the turf to commemorate the international 'Yoga Day'. They were also divided into groups to mix two primary colours together to set the secondary colour. These activities helped them develop their social, language and communication skills. They also helped to build their fine motor skills.
International Yoga Day for the Kindergarten
The country commemorates this day, 21 June every year to spread awareness about the importance of physical, mental and spiritual practice.
It was an amazing and exciting experience for the students of KG I and II as they celebrated the International Yoga Day. A short briefing was given on yoga. Yoga is one of the healthiest practices children can implement in their day to day life.
Students were accompanied by teachers for a yoga session. They set out looking forward to some fun and frolic with exercise. A mass performance of various 'asanas' was conducted by our PE. teachers. It was amazing to watch children do it with accuracy and dedication. The joy of seeing their friends and siblings performing Yoga made them feel more relaxed and confident. The cool breeze added an ethereal atmosphere.
The teachers emphasized the importance of yoga which is a form of exercise that brings about a balance between body and mind. It also helps keep them fit.
It was a day to be remembered and a learning experience for the children.
Hopping to the 'a' family words
The literacy class started with a surprise for the students of KG II. The teacher entered into the class, dressed up like a rabbit.
The children were very excited to see a rabbit greeting them. The chirping of birds, that was played in class added to the excitement.
The teacher narrated the story 'The Man and the Cat' with modulation, expression, props, puppets and freeze rhyme to introduce 'a' family rhyming words such as cat, jam, car, pan etc. The children were allowed to explore various handson activities like Engine Flash Card, Word Family Spoons, Read and Sort Activity, Word Slider, Word Wheel Spinner. The student were encouraged with a star for understanding the right concept.
Finally, the students danced to rhythm of different rhymes .It was a fun filled learning experience for them.
