Joyful Journey
This Kannada activity was held on 27th September 2018. It was based on "Types of Transport"
Children were taught about the basics of transport and its types: Land, Air and Water.
They were asked to bring toy vehicles of either of the 3 types of transport. Then, they were encouraged to arrange them, based on their type on separate tables. Then the tiny tots spoke about the different types of Vehicles.
Children had a wonderful time explaining each and every vehicle and how they worked and which they are fond of. This activity helped them enhance their knowledge about this topic.
Through this activity they learnt to :
Cooperatively manage their groups.
Speak fluently.
Explain with validity.
Share information.
Butterflies
An activity was conducted for students of class III in connection with a lesson. The students were given the picture of a butterfly to paint their imagination. They used a spectrum of colours to make the butterfly colourful. The students presented their colourful butterflies to the class and spoke about the charecteristics of the butterfly and various colours used by them in kannada.
This activity gave the learners an opportunity to speak confidently in front of the audience and also enhance their speaking skills.
Imagine you are a Tree
The students of Grade 3 were encouraged to write a paragraph on "Imagine you are a tree for a day". The students came up with a host of ideas and very creatively penned down their feelings and experiences on an A4 sheet. A few students were very sensitive towards the rampant felling of trees which leads to an imbalance in the environment. A few others were very sensitive to the feelings of each tree and criticized the builders who in their enthusiasm to expand cities, encroached into the forest lands and cut down trees. The students felt that each tree must be living in fear of being cut down. Through this activity the students were sensitized to the fact that the green cover on our Earth has to be protected.
Roman Numerals
Introducing Math Roman Numerals concept to the students through an activity is a great way to make learning fun, engaging and motivating for young learners. The concept of Roman numerals was taught to the students of class 3 using number cards. Roman numerals were the symbols used by the ancient Romans to identify certain numbers. Number cards with different roman numerals and cardinal numbers were stuck on the back of the children. Children would recognize the Roman numbers and look for their match of cardinal number. This enabled children to identify and learn different Roman numerals.
Our Festivals
The students of class 3 thoroughly enjoyed the lesson "Our Festivals" where they studied about various festivals celebrated all over the country. They learnt about the types of festivals. The students were enthralled to learn about the different national, religious and harvest festivals. They were encouraged to write about any one of their favourite festival and speak about it. It was a treat to listen to the students speak about the traditions, customs and rituals followed while celebrating different festivals. They also spoke about the variety of food prepared during festival seasons. Through this activity, the students were able to learn about different festivals celebrated in our country.
World Environmental Day
To commemorate the ‘World Environment Day’, the students of classes III and IV involved themselves in making ‘Seed Balls’. Seed balls are an ancient technique for propagating plants from seeds without opening up the soil with cultivation tools. This activity was conducted on 11 June 2018 in the school premises under the guidance and supervision of the Science teachers.
Concrete jungles proliferating across the globe have destroyed the greenery. The present day young generation Young generation should be made aware about the environmental degradation taking place at a fast pace. The need of the hour is conservation of resources and the environment as a whole. The seed ball activity for students was a small step taken to instill the value of maintaining and preserving greenery on earth.
