Exploring Creativity
Students of class IV read short stories from their English text book. An activity related to this was conducted where students were asked to weave a short story with a moral. A few ideas related to this activity were given by the teacher. They were also asked to narrate the story to the class. The students enjoyed listening to different stories that were narrated. It was an activity to channelize their creativity to its best. While they heard each other, their horizon of imagination was widened. This activity helped them to use their language and speaking skills and improved their vocabulary. The students took up the activity as a challenge. They expressed their perceptions along with a moral.
Archaeologists in the Making
An activity was conducted for class VI students to enhance the knowledge on archaeology and excavation. Things which resemble to the ancient period were hidden prior to the activity in the sandpit area of the school. On the day of the activity, students were divided into groups. Each group enthusiastically took part in the activity and excavated certain hidden things from the assigned area. This activity gave the students hands on experience of excavation.
JAM Session: My Hobby
Hobbies are the manifestation of creative thoughts and adventurous spirits. Students of Montessori were given an opportunity to portray their interests and hobbies in the JAM (Just a Minute) session. They were forthcoming to share thoughts about their hobbies and eager to know about the hobbies of their friends as well.
While a few bonded over their love for similar models of cars, a few others shared their experience in gardening. Most of them were ready with props, due credit must be given to our ever enthusiastic parent fraternity who always volunteer to support the hobbies of their children. It was delightful to see our students speaking confidently and encouraging their peers.
Connect to Lord Ganesha
Students of class IV memorized a Poem from their Kannada textbook. An activity related to this was conducted where students were asked to bring child friendly clay and make idols of lord Ganesha. Few ideas related to this activity was given by the teacher. Each one of them narrated mythological stories of Lord Ganesha. Few students shared the importance of this festival and the delicacies prepared for the festivities. This activity helped them to improve their language and speaking skills. It was a joyful activity as children were waiting for their turns to showcase their tiny Ganesha with pride and talk about it.
Sprinkling Seasons
The students of Class IV were encouraged to write and talk about their favourite climate. They were asked to think beyond the textbook and talk about things which they get to do during their favourite season. Through this exercise, the learners were able to learn interesting facts on each topic spoken. The rarest facts about each climate was explored and shared. Also, it helped them enhance their speaking skills and vocabulary.
World Environmental Day
To commemorate the ‘World Environment Day’, the students of classes III and IV involved themselves in making ‘Seed Balls’. Seed balls are an ancient technique for propagating plants from seeds without opening up the soil with cultivation tools. This activity was conducted on 11 June 2018 in the school premises under the guidance and supervision of the Science teachers.
Concrete jungles proliferating across the globe have destroyed the greenery. The present day young generation Young generation should be made aware about the environmental degradation taking place at a fast pace. The need of the hour is conservation of resources and the environment as a whole. The seed ball activity for students was a small step taken to instill the value of maintaining and preserving greenery on earth.
