Mime (Save Water)
Air pollution and global warming are having a drastic and unpredictable climatic conditions, it is ever important for us to conserve the natural resources. The most vital resource is water. Innovative way of making people aware of water wastage, which happens in our day to day life was beautifully put across to the preprimary students by our primary students through mime. Students of preprimary were in awe as they were watching the performance and they tried to comprehend their actions. They were able to relate to how water gets wasted and also promised to save water by spreading the message across.
Reflecting on the Refraction using a Glass Slab
Light travels faster than sound. It exhibits properties in a very peculiar way. To understand the dual nature of light, one has to know about reflection and refraction process.
Learners from grade 8 had an activity in Physics to enhance their knowledge about "Light". They were asked to trace the path of refraction of a light ray using a glass slab. This activity was conducted in the science lab. This was an individual activity. Each student was given ball pins to trace the path and verify the laws of refraction practically. Later, they traced the refracted ray, on an A4 sheet. This activity helped them to gain an insight about angle of incidence, angle of refraction, incident ray, refracted ray, normal and the emergent ray. Finally the activity was concluded by calculating the refractive index of the glass slab using Snell's Law.
Properties of Parallelogram
"The centre of gravity of any parallelogram lies on the straight line joining the middle points of opposite sides"
- Archimedes
As rightly said by the great mathematician and philosopher Archimedes, understanding the properties of parallelogram needs its strong basic knowledge.
To strengthen the basic knowledge of grade 8 students, an activity based on special types of parallelogram was conducted. The students were divided into groups. Each group was given a task of proving the properties of one type of parallelogram. Each student in the group presented the properties of parallelogram, square, rhombus and rectangle. They even presented a few examples to prove the converse of the theorems in a creative way.
This activity helped them to instill team work, communication skills and coordinating with group members. Finally the presentation ended with a rapid question round. The activity gave a clear idea about the properties of parallelogram.
Snippets of The Letter
The students of class VIII enacted snippets of the story of The Letter, showcasing their ability to write a script, allocate roles for themselves, practise and present their short skit before the class. In this process students learnt to work in a team, they also developed empathy towards the aged and their emotional needs. This also enhanced their writing and speaking skills and developed confidence to speak in front of an audience. It also exhibited their ingenuity in coming up with props. The students enjoyed the activity immensely.
Elocution
Guy de Maupassant's A Piece of String is a story that portrays human values that determine the way one leads one's life. In relation to this, students of class VIII were asked to write and speak about various moral values with illustrations. Students learned to identify moral values that build integrity in an individual and what it takes to uphold them. It was a revelation to hear children speak passionately about what they considered important in a righteous human being.
