Akbar and Birbal
Students of grade 2 performed a role play on the story of Akbar and Birbal. The students involved themselves whole heartedly in this activity. This was indeed commendable as they were able to deliver the dialogues fluently with the right voice modulation and intonation. The royal attitude of Akbar and Witty nature of Birbal was very well portrayed by the students. The characters were well attired. Which added a lots of charm to the overall performance. This helped them to enhance their speaking skills and develop confidence.
This activity was a 'Bulls Eye' as it met its expectation of 'learning with fun'..
Pretty Peacocks
Students of class 2 learnt a lesson about peacocks from their Kannada textbook. An activity based on the topic was conducted where students were asked to bring few colourful sequences, pearls to decorate a picture of a peacock. Few ideas related to this activity was given by the teacher. Each one of them decorated peacock beautifully. They spoke about the food habits of peacock, types of peacocks and their habitat. This activity helped the learners to enhance the speaking skills and vocabulary of the young learners as they learnt about our National bird.
Role Play - The Emperor's Kite
Role play stimulates students imagination and "enhances their social development, encourages friendship through cooperation, listening and speaking." Therefore, role play is a vital activity for the students.
The students of class 2 performed the role play for the lesson 'The Emperor's Kite'. They were guided by the English teachers who divided the class into different groups. The students participated in this activity with great enthusiasm. They even prepared props like crown, kite etc. Each group came forward and presented their skit in front of the class. The coordination among students was appreciated by the teachers.
>World Environment Day
World Environment Day is observed on the fifth of June every year. Various environmental issues and their preventive measures were discussed through a talk to create awareness among the growing learners during the assembly.
On this Eco day, the children of class I planted seeds of coriander, fenugreek and ragi in the kitchen garden of the school as a drive towards creating green surroundings.
Students of class II were asked to bring a cleaned coconut half-shell in which they filled garden soil from the kitchen garden. They sowed coriander and fenugreek seeds in it. They watered it every day until the seed germinated and took the same home after a week.
Bee Activity
"Be like the honey bee, anything it eats is clean, anything it drops is sweet, and the branch it sits upon does not break". The poem 'Two Children' describes about a bee, wherein the children wish to have wings like a bee. The teacher spoke about how bees are useful to us like they give us honey and wax. They also carry pollen dust from one flower to another. Later, the learners were provided with a bee shaped cutout and were asked to make meaningful words starting from the letters 'Be'. They made words like beautiful, beehive, belong, behold, before, behave, because, between etc. They colored and decorated it. They enjoyed the activity and learnt many words. This activity helped the learners to make meaningful words starting from the letters 'Be'. They also learnt many new words.
