The clash of ideas and the sound of musiq from raaga.com.grd7npsmys.....
Whenever waves can roll and winds can blow, we should be able to listen to the music of nature. Isn't it? Grade 7 learners had an interesting activity on part of their physics lesson, "Sound" . The activity was to design an instrument using the materials available around them easily. The learners designed instruments keeping in mind the basic knowledge of sound. The materials used were shower cap, an empty plastic pot, coconut shells, ear buds, an empty juice can, balloons, match box, rubber bands, glass tumblers, straws and various common things similar. The result was amazing! Each instrument was a unique design being musical in its own way. It was a great learning for them also as they had to consider many facts of sound to be considered to design their musical instrument. This activity helped the learners to understand how the characteristics of sound like frequency, pitch or timbre, amplitude, loudness affects the sound produced.

The learners spoke about the decorative flowers created by them, which helped them to enhance their Kannada speaking skills and vocabulary.
Motion
Understanding motion being motionless……
Most motion in physics are complex. Some objects move in a straight line, some in a curved line. Some objects may rotate, some may vibrate. Few may exhibit motion involving all these conditions. To understand motion better, grade 9 students were asked to observe the motion of any object. They were asked to identify the type as uniform or non uniform motion. The students observed the movement of celestial body like The Moon and traced it's path on an A4 sheet. This was done with the help of a reference point which is stationary like a building, a tree, an electric pole and so on. They even learnt to represent this motion graphically. This activity helped them to observe the surroundings keenly in the perspective of physics.
Shape Poem Writing
Shape poems are written in a particular shape, conveying what it refers to. The learners of class VII wrote shape poems, on a house, in pairs. They were told to be as creative as they could be. The learners really enjoyed working in pairs and writing beautiful poems using rhyming words and giving unique description of a house. Later, the learners presented and sang their poems in the class. It was wonderful to see the budding students of literature.
Poster Making
Poster making is a hands-on activity where the participants use their creativity to highlight the topic at hand and convey a message. Class VII learners made posters on 'Animal Cruelty' relating to one of their textbook topics. Some of the issues brought out in the posters created by the students were: the plight of animals in the society, the need to create awareness about animal cruelty and the being a responsible citizen. Some of the posters are really hard-hitting and thought-provoking.
Creating Bliss Symbols
What are bliss symbols? How are the bliss symbols created? The learners of class VII found out the answers to these questions and more by being part of this activity. The learners created their own bliss symbols, thereby igniting their imagination beyond the books. There was thought, logic and creativity involved in the activity, thus providing the learners with an opportunity to enhance the same. This was followed by a peer explanation of the creation.
Extempore Activity in Hindi
To instill the desire in learning and to enhance the speaking skills, the students of class VII had an activity of pick and speak. The students were asked to pick a chit and were given two minutes to collaborate their thoughts. They were encouraged to speak in front of the class. This activity enabled them to think creatively and express their thoughts on the given topics. This activity helped to boost their confidence to speak in our National language.
Collage Making Activity
The learners of class VII created a collage about the medieval history of India as a class activity. They gathered information about the rulers, architecture, coins, art, culture, travelers and much more to create the collage. Students were seen exchanging ideas, discussing, sharing and actively engaged in the activity. It enhanced the knowledge of students about that period of history beyond books and brought out their creative selves.
2D Model Making
The students of class VII were grouped in random order and were given responsibility of making a 2D model on different topics like the layers of Earth, stages in a Rivers life, rock formation, features of wind, water and soil erosion. The students worked in teams and used clay of different colors to create beautiful models. Each and every student engaged enthusiastically in the activity. The students presented their model to the class with explanation.
Study on Cell Organelle
The students of class 7 were introduced to the parts of a cell this year. They were taken to the lab to observe the animal cell, onion cell and cheek cells under the microscope. As an extension of the study of cells, they were asked to research any two cell organelles and present a report. Their natural curiosity and wonder was evident in the reports they presented. They were fascinated to know that the structures that are a few microns in length, is the reason why all organisms live.
