Small Hands can Change the World
"SEED BALL ACTIVITY" As our new academic year progresses in KG II, the children are settled, busy and systematically immersing themselves in their daily routine at kindergarten. This month sees the beginning of new activities in different subjects, one of them being the seed ball activity. This activity has been selected to deepen their understandings of harmful effects of pollution in the environment. Children mixed the clay soil and water thoroughly. Then seeds were added, small balls were made along with the seeds. They enjoyed rolling the seed balls, later they tossed it at different corners of the garden where they wanted the trees to grow. The children took so much of pride doing this, as their teachers explained to them the importance of growing trees, which can reduce air pollution and make the world a better place for them and others to live. The children had indeed made a difference to our eco system in their own small way.
"MUSICAL BLENDS" Play in the classroom enhances learning and makes it fun for children. The teachers planned an activity similar to musical chairs which the children were familiar with. The teacher had written few words with the beginning consonant blends like cloud, bloom etc on a small piece of paper, folded and kept them in a bowl. The children were told to pick one paper from it, then they were asked to form a circle and as soon as the music was played, children moved around in a circle skipping and dancing. When the music stopped they stood in pairs. The teacher asked the children to see what was written and read the same to each other. Once they read the word with blends, the music was played again and they would repeat the process. This activity was repeated until each of them got to read more than one word as they got a new partner each time. Children enjoyed themselves thoroughly with the music and they were excited to read the words to each other. This way of learning new words was fun which will also improve their reading and vocabulary skills.
