Match the Vowels
The ability to associate sounds with letters is an essential early phonics skill learned through explicit demonstration and practice. Phonics knowledge is important for developing accurate word identification skills. This activity was planned to help students identify the vowel sound in the word and relate the sound to the letter. Montessori juniors were given a few picture cards, they were asked to identify the picture and analyze the sound of the vowel in the word. Students then related the sound to the letter. Little learners were able to enunciate the word, identify the vowel sound and relate it to the letter.
