Magic of letter 'e'
The silent 'e' is magical! It changes the sound and meaning of words but remains silent. The magic 'e' rule states, “When the magic 'e' is at the end of the word, it is usually silent and the magical 'e' tells the first vowel or the preceding vowel to say its name”. The magical 'e' vowels are as follows :
a_e : gate
i_e : slide
o_e : smoke
u_e : capsule
In this activity, each student was given a chit with magic 'e' words written on it. When the teacher called out the letter, all students with the same sounds had to form a group and each student in the group had to read out the words, aloud. They also had to explain how the word changes with magical 'e'.
As a follow up, 'four in a row' activity was planned individually for all students. They had to read the words aloud; then mark the words which have 'a_e' sound in blue and other sounds in green. Similar activity was done for words with sounds of i_e, u_e and o_e.
